Description:

Mostly known for shooting Western American wildlife on film, this bison head mount is attributed as being shot in the Montana Territory by famous western photographer, L.A. Huffman in 1882. Huffman (1854-1931) is best known for his photographs portraying Native Americans, life in the American West, and wildlife of the same region. This mount appears to be that of an adult female or young male bison. The mount is attributed on a small brass plaque on the wood base, just above the head and the back is hand marked in black "LA HUFFMAN/MONTANA/TERRITORY/MILES CITY/1881". The wood base is an oval of approximately 14 x 23 inches and it is approximately 17 1/2 inches from "wall" to the tip of the snout. Provenance: The John Fox Collection

Rating Definition:

Very good given the attributed age, with minimal visible wear, some minor age related drying, and some scattered minor handling/storage evidence on the wooden base. An excellent piece of western decor for your gun room or study attributed to one of the most famous artists of the American West!
