Around 10,000 Hepburn rifles were manufactured by Remington c. 1883-1907. The barrel has both sight dovetails empty, "REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION. N.Y." marked just ahead of the rear dovetail, "40.90S.ST" on the bottom of the barrel ahead of the Schnabel style forearm, the forearm could not be removed at the time of describing, "8684" on the lower tang, the two-line Hepburn patent marking on the left side of the frame, and a checkered round knob semi-pistol grip buttstock with a checkered hard rubber shotgun buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fine, retains 40% of the thinning original blue finish and 50% of the original case colors with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina. The wood is also very fine with a few scattered minor dings and a few scattered light blemishes in the otherwise crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
