Description:

Manufactured in 1860 as one of the first Second Issues to come out of the S&W factory featuring the early square-cut side plate, of which only a minute number were produced. The accompanying factory letter confirms the 3 3/16 inch barrel, two-tone blue and silver finish, and smooth rosewood grips. The letter also states the revolver was sold on September 4, 1860, purchased by J.W. Storrs of New York City (S&W's sole agent from 1857-69), and part of a 40 unit shipment. The barrel rib has the one-line address, and the cylinder has the patent marking. The right grip panel is numbered to the gun. Matching assembly marks are on the grip frame, barrel, and cylinder. The period correct case contains a cartridge block holding a full count of 53 rounds, cleaning rod and case key. Provenance: The Robert Howard Collection; The Tom Lewis Collection; The Sheryl Cheely Collection

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The barrel and cylinder retain 95% bright original blue finish. The frame retains nearly all of the attractive age darkened original silver plating. The grips are also excellent with some minor handling marks and most of the original varnish remaining. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine with minor handling/storage marks and typical high spot wear on the lining. A high condition example of an early production S&W Model No.1 Second Issue revolver complete with case.
