U.S. Model 1816 Pistol manufactured by Simeon North between 1817-1820. The pistol has been converted from flintlock to percussion ignition using a bolster alteration, likely in the 1850's or during the Civil War, similar to the style of conversions performed on Confederate issued guns of the time. Features a distinctive two strap barrel band with the front sight blade on the forward strap. Iron furniture and iron ramrod. The edges of the lock plate are rounded behind the hammer and beveled ahead of it, with a Confederate style hammer. Reference pages 568 and 626 of the book "Confederate Rifles & Muskets" by John M. Good as converted to percussion, with smooth brown patina overall, some markings removed at the time of conversion, and some scattered light pitting. Wood is also good as lightly sanded and re-oiled with scattered light scratches and dents, a crack ahead of the lock, and a crack ahead of the rear lock screw. Mechanically fine.
