Description:

Forerunner of the Type 14 Nambu that would be the standard Japanese sidearm of World War Two, the Grandpa Nambu was produced in relatively limited quantities well before the Papa Nambu was introduced, with only around 2,400 made by Tokyo Arsenal. Blade front and tangent rear sights, with the "stacked cannonball" Tokyo mark on the chamber, 3-symbol nomenclature on the right side, and matching numbers on the frame, bolt, cocking knob, bolt, trigger (partial), and the underside of the barrel. "Thai" arsenal mark visible on lower front gripstrap. The grip panels are unnumbered, and the magazine is numbered "2274". Included with the pistol is a scarce combination stock and holster; the most distinctive feature of the Grandpa Nambu, these shoulder stocks were often discarded or destroyed. The stock is of hardwood construction, with a hollow interior configured to hold the pistol and an extra magazine (not included), with a hinged hardwood lid, a metal belt loop/strap mount with matching number, and a blued steel iron with a matching number and a telescoping neck.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine, with 90% of the arsenal applied blue finish, showing some minor spotting, bright edge wear and mild handling marks. 40% of the straw finish is present on the small parts, showing some bright wear. A thin horizontal groove has been cut into the left grip panel; otherwise, the grips are very fine with a few dings and chips on the otherwise sharp checkering. The stock is fine, with 98% arsenal refurbished blue on the metal and refinished wood with some cracking at the iron and hinge (mostly concealed by the hardware). Mechanically excellent.
