Operating out of his home workshop in California, John Martz is best known for his alterations and upgrades of Luger and P-38 pistols. Working with all manner of military, police and commercial Lugers as a base, the Baby Luger features a short barrel, in conjunction with a frame that has been cut and reshaped to give the signature Luger grip profile in a more compact form. This particular Baby draws components from a Mauser "S/42" code P.08 military Luger (sans stock lug) and integrates the Martz Safe Toggle Release system. Blade front and notch rear sights, with no markings on the chamber or extension, "S/42" on the front toggle link, and "MSTR", "JVM" and "65" on the left side of the frame (the latter two hidden by the sideplate). Aside from the frame, mixed sideplate and matching sear and hold-open, components are unnumbered overall. Fitted with a set of properly sized, unmarked checkered grips and a shortened magazine with "eagle/37" proof mark. Included with the pistol is a display stand with a hidden compartment for the magazine, an included unmarked takedown tool, and slots for 7 rounds of ammunition (not included).
Very fine as professionally customized/refurbished by John Martz, showing extensive patches of surface oxidation, mild spotting and wear on the otherwise bright metal finish. Traces of straw color are present on the small parts, with the remainder having turned bright gray. The grips are very fine with a few dings on the otherwise sharp checkering. The stand shows mild wear, but is overall very good. Mechanically excellent.
