Description:

This late 17th or early 18th century sporting gun has three two-stage, smoothbore barrels. Two are marked "LAZARINO COMINAZZO," and the third is marked "LAZARINO COMENAZZO." The barrel markings have star and scroll accents. Each barrel has its own blade front sight, frizzen, and pan, and the plates have scroll engraving. The shared back action lock has scroll engraving, a mask on the cock, a stepped tail, beveled edges, and is secured by a single screw. The upper tang has a dished brass rear sight. A small lever ahead of the trigger guard frees the barrels for rotation. The furniture is brass and has floral engraving, masks, a coronet and crossed antlers on the escutcheon, a pieced chariot design on the side plate, and a mythical figure on the buttplate. There are forend panels between the barrels, and one has three ferrules that carry the shared ramrod. The buttstock has raised relief carving. A W. Keith Neal Collection tag is attached to the trigger guard. Provenance: The William Goodwin Renwick Collection; The W. Keith Neal Collection; The Collection of Joe M. Wanenmacher Jr

Rating Definition:

Fine with silver-gray patina and some minor oxidation and pitting on the iron, aged patina on the brass, repaired trigger guard, and mild overall wear. The re-oiled forend panels are fine and have some chips and repairs. The refinished buttstock is also fine and has crisp carving, a chip at the upper tang on the right, and a gap at the butt.
