This pistol has the maker's mark "JOAN DEOP" on the lock and "crown/EUD./MO/LAS" on the breech end of the barrel. Eudald Molas was a barrel maker c. 1678-1720, and Joan Deop is recorded in Ripoll c. 1715. The smoothbore "cannon" barrel has silver inlaid floral and bird patterns on top of the octagonal breech section. The lock has some floral engraving and some spots of gold backgrounds. The trigger guard is brass. The remaining furniture is silver and has scroll and floral pattern engraving along with a mask on the pommel. "196" is stamped on the wood at the toe. The stock has raised relief floral and scroll carving. A ramrod with horn tip is included. Provenance: The Collection of Joe M. Wanenmacher Jr

Rating Definition:

Very good with attractive aged patina and crisp engraving on the silver, mottled brown patina on the balance of the barrel, silver-gray and brown patina on the lock, and mild overall wear, including some dings and dents. The refinished stock is also very good with a spliced section on the forend, mostly distinct carving, light dings and scratches, small chip by the pan, and smooth finish. Mechanically fine.
