Manufactured in 1913 with the standard two-line Marlin address and patent dates marked on top of the barrel, and the caliber marking on the upper left at the breech. The upper tang is marked "Marlin/MOD. 37" along with the Marlin inspector's star. The desirable serial number "1" is marked on the lower tang. It is fitted with beaded blade front and elevation adjustable notch rear sights. Mounted with a nine-groove slide handle and straight grip stock with a checkered hard rubber Marlin buttplate. This rifle was on display at the NRA National Sporting Arms Museum from 2013-2022 and is featured on p. 203 of the book "Guns of the NRA NSAM". Provenance: The Supica Collection
Fine, retains 40% of the faded original blue finish with the balance having mostly thinned to a smooth plum-brown or grey patina. The wood is very good with light handling marks throughout and a speckling of dark staining on the left of the buttstock. Mechanically excellent. A rare opportunity to own a Marlin serial number 1!
