Description:

A refinement of the PPD-34 submachine gun, the PPD-40 was an effective weapon but produced in limited quantities compared to the PPSh-41 and PPS-43; the latter two made much heavier use of stamped components, and could be brought into the field faster and cheaper than the more heavily machined PPD. Several thousand were exported to Yugoslavia and China during World War II, and many wound up in Finnish hands as battlefield salvage, where they would be kept in home guard/reserve service up to 1960. Blade front and tangent rear sights, with the top of the receiver marked "arrow in shield/1940" over the serial number (full transliterated number: ChIu133). A sliding lock notch on the bolt acts as the safety, and a selector switch is installed on the right side of the trigger guard, marked "1" for semi-auto and "72" for full auto. Fitted with a smooth two piece stock and a steel buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with 90% of the arsenal refurbished blue, showing some light handing marks, spotting and wear. Both the bolt face and the breech show notable rust. The stock is very good as arsenal repaired, with some cracking near the magazine catch and at the wrist, the latter stabilized with a wooden pin, along with mild dents and scuffs. The magazine needs adjustment, otherwise mechanically fine. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
