Manufactured in 1893, this is one of approximately 200 of Colt's Model 1877 revolver that were chambered in .32 Long Colt and nicknamed the "Rainmaker". Making this specific example even more rare, is the fact that it is in Sheriff's Model configuration, having a 3 1/2 inch barrel and no ejector. The top of the barrel is marked with the two-line address while the left is marked "COLT. D.A. 32". The left of the frame has the three-line patent date marking and the circled Rampant Colt. Matching serial numbers are visible on the frame, trigger guard, and back strap, with partial matching number "485" on the rear face of the cylinder. The assembly number "436" is marked inside the loading gate. It is fitted with a blade front sight, groove rear sight, and a pair of checkered hard rubber grips with Rampant Colts in ovals at the tops. The included factory letter confirms the current configuration (grips not listed) as well as shipment to The Wilmot & Hobbs Mfg. Co. in Bridgeport, Connecticut on 5 October 1893.
Excellent, retains 95% plus of the untouched original nickel finish with a couple scattered patches of minor flaking and a few scattered smaller flecks of flaking. 75% plus of the original niter blue remains on the small parts. The grips are also excellent, the left panel having faded to an attractive chocolate brown, a few scattered light handling marks, and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent.
