Description:

This is a very nice all original WWII Model 1941 Johnson Arms semi-automatic rifle. This rifle was designed by Melvin Johnson in 1939, and it was a serious contender against the M1 Garand rifle. Although the U.S. Army adopted the M1 Garand rifles, the U.S.M.C. Marine Corps Parachute and Raider Battalions acquired some as war expedient models and used them very effectively in the early island hopping campaigns in the South Pacific in 1942/43. These Johnson rifles have several unique features/improvements over the M1 Garand, such as a ten round, rotary magazine that could easily be loaded at anytime with either a single or multiple rounds before or during a battle, and a quick and easily removable barrel that allowed for easy storage in a parachute jump bag. The receiver is marked with five line, patent information ,and "JOHNSON AUTOMATICS/MODEL OF 1941" logo, address and the serial number "B5183". The barrel is marked "J.A./30-06" on the breech end, with the front of the barrel support marked "30-06/41" with the rear chamber area of the barrel and locking lugs/barrel extension area both correctly stamped with the matching number "9881H". The right rear side of the receiver is stamped with the "CRANSTON/ARMS/CO." inside an inverted triangle. The right side of the rear sight is stamped "METERS" with "M2" stamped on the left side. This original rifle has its original WWII green parkerized finish on the steel parts, with a lighter green parkerized finish on the stamped steel rotary magazine assembly. The rear sight assembly also has the original/correct WWII blue/black finish clearly indicating that this rifle has never been refinished. It is fitted with its original oil finished, two-piece walnut buttstock and forend with the original checkered steel buttplate. The rifle bolt is marked "B8558" and is still in the original "in the white" factory condition.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 80% plus of the original green parkerized finish, showing even honest wear on the metal surfaces. The stock and forend are both in very good condition with a nice dark original appearance on the wood overall showing minor field/handling marks, with some wood wear on the lower toe area of the stock. Mechanically excellent. A very nice original WWII Model 1941 Johnson semi-automatic rifle.
