Historic, rare, miniature and desirable are all words found in the descriptions of collectible fine arms in Rock Island Auction Company’s upcoming Sporting & Collector Auction, June 21-23.

Among the remarkable lineup of offerings are legendary American guns like a Winchester Model 1873 One of One Thousand, Colt Walker Model 1847, Henry Rifles and Thompson Submachine Guns. The auction will also feature a number of firearm miniatures ranging from flintlocks to a Beretta 92FS.

Rock Island Auction will host the three-day auction, featuring a lineup of more than 3,000 lots and 4,400 firearms at its amazing state-of-the-art facility in Bedford, Texas, offering one of the finest gun shows in the Lone Star State with its preview day on June 20.

This Winchester Model 1873 One of One Thousand is joined by a Colt Walker in Rock Island Auction's Sporting & Collector Auction. The One of One Thousand bears the inscription "H.G.H. Reed./Milwaukee, Wis./Aug. 3 1876" and is also documented in the book "Winchester's New Model of 1873: A Tribute, Volume II," by James Gordon.

Legendary Firearms

The auction’s headliner is a documented Winchester Model 1873 One of One Thousand inscribed to “H.G.H. Reed./Milwaukee, Wis./Aug. 3 1876” and is documented in “Winchester’s New Model of 1873: A Tribute, Volume II,” by James Gordon. From one legendary gunmaker to another is the Colt Walker Model 1847 manufactured by the Whitneyville Armory and is one of 220 C Company revolvers.

The auction will also feature several examples of the Henry Rifle that led to the Winchester 1866 and the Model 1873, considered “the gun that won the west.” The Henrys include a game scene engraved rifle, a Civil War era gun, a martially inspected example and an early production rifle with a three-digit serial number.

Of two Thompson Submachine Guns in the auction, one was in a unit of 10 shipped to the Indiana National Guard in July 1922. The second is a scarce World War 2 M1928A1 manufactured by Savage Arms Co.

This Company C marked U.S. Contract Colt Walker will be available in RIAC's June Sporting & Collector Auction, it is one of the 38 surviving C Company Walker revolvers listed on page 80 of "The Colt Whitneyville Walker Pistol" by Lt. Col. Robert Whittington.

Rare Guns

Colt Dragoons, including a rare second contract Fluck Dragoon, and Volcanic lever action pistols and a carbine are a part of a fantastic roster of historic arms that also include a Smith & Wesson Model 320 Revolving Rifle, a factory engraved silver-plated Winchester Model 1873, a Colt Model 1883 Burgess lever action rifle, a Civil War U.S. Burnside Second Model Breech Loading Percussion Saddle Ring Carbine and a rare Roper Repeating Rifle Co. A rare and documented Colt presentation English cased and engraved London Model 1851 Navy presented to Admiral Sir Thomas Cochrane is among the anticipated arms in the auction. The scroll engraved gun bears the inscription on the backstrap, “FROM THE INVENTOR/TO ADMIRAL/SIR THOs COCHRANE.” Cochrane had a distinguished naval career with victories over French and U.S. warships in the Napoleonic Wars and War of 1812 and participated in the burning of Washington, D.C. The presentation coincided with the purchase of 23,500 Colt 1951 Navy revolvers in 1854.

Remarkable revolvers and lever action rifles are among the offerings in the June Sporting & Collector Auction, including a Colt second contract Fluck Dragoon and a factory engraved silver-plated Winchester Model 1873.
